Four Reasons Why You Should Have a Great Yard

When preparing for the home of your dreams, it’s easy to get caught up in the details of what you want the inside of your house to look like. You want the open-concept kitchen with white cabinets, hardwood floors, and granite counter tops. You’re planning for a beautiful master bedroom with a spacious bath and walk-in closet. You’re picking out the ping pong table that’ll go in the basement where the kids can hang out.

These are all important details to hash out before and during the home design process;

The exterior of your home adds to the curb appeal of your yard.

however, there’s one thing you might not have thought about.

Your yard.

What will your landscape look like? Will there be plenty of trees, or are you considering a

garden to provide fresh vegetables all summer long? What kinds of shrubs or flower beds do you want? While it might make the whole home building process more overwhelming, your front and backyard are just as important as what’s inside your home. If you haven’t spent much time thinking about your future yard, here are four reasons why you should start brainstorming now:
  1. A Yard Creates Curb Appeal. Curb appeal is the level of attractiveness of your home as seen from the outside. This includes the exterior style, color, and materials of your home. It also encompasses the flowers, shrubs, trees, porches, walkways and more. Anything that contributes to the overall beauty of the outside of your home serves as curb appeal. We like curb appeal, and so should you! Think about beautiful trees, stone walkways, and a porch perfect for enjoying your morning paper and coffee. All of these things are important factors when designing your house.

  2. You’ll want to be outside. A beautifully landscaped yard entices you to spend

Pay no mind to the grass-less yard! This patio that we built is perfect for enjoying Memorial Day and 4th of July cookouts!

more time outdoors. You’ll want to invite friends and family over for Memorial Day and Fourth of July cookouts. It’ll also be a perfect place for hosting birthday parties and backyard camping adventures for the whole family! Also, according to this Huffington Post article about the importance of getting outside, being outdoors increases your vitamin D intake, and it can also improve your happiness. All the more reason to give yourself the yard you deserve!

  3. Your Kids Will be Healthy and Active. Nowadays, children and teenagers are spending more time in front of TV, computer, and smartphone screens. This has led to childhood obesity and other health problems. While some screen time is okay, it’s absolutely crucial that younger kids are playing outside. Whether that’s having a great driveway for a game of pickup basketball, a swing-set in the backyard, or room to run around and toss a football, a spacious yard is important for the mental and physical health of your kids.

  4. It adds value to your home. A yard that’s been neatly and beautifully landscaped tends to increase the value of your house. According to this House Logic article, “Gorgeous Landscaping Ideas: Trees, Lighting, and Retaining Walls,” the authors cite both John Harris, a landscape economist, and a Clemson University study when they write that, “Good landscaping can add up to 28% to overall home value… Even taking your landscaping from “good” to “excellent,” in terms of design, condition, and placement, can add 6% to 7% to a home’s value…” In other words, landscaping your yard with trees, shrubs, and flower beds is great for property value in case you ever want to sell your house.

These are just a few reasons that having a nice, landscaped yard is just as important as designing the interior of your home. Explore possible ideas on Pinterest, or contact C&E Wurzer Builders. We can help bring you a landscape that will be custom to your lifestyle!

What does it Cost?  The Kitchen and Bath Reveal

The conversation – it’s sometimes awkward, often slightly uncomfortable and usually comes with a bit of anxiety. Because of the nature of construction, things often cost more than what homeowners think. This seminar presented by Saira of Lake Hallie Cabinets will help point different aspects of a construction project to help you have a better idea of what a remodel may actually cost.

Planning for Your Dream Kitchen!

Kitchens are often the focal point of any home. They’re perfect for entertaining guests, hosting family gatherings and parties, and they’re also great for having nightly family dinners. Kitchens are also essential for the holidays. Whether you love to cook, or you simply have a large family, it’s important to have a kitchen that meets your needs.

C&E Wurzer Builders can create an open kitchen with a great dining area attached!

While it might be too late to start a kitchen remodeling project now with the holidays right around the corner– and cold temperatures along with them!– it’s never too late to start brainstorming ideas for the kitchen of your dreams. Before we talk about the fun parts, such as backsplash and cabinetry, appliances and flooring, there are many items to consider. Thanks to us and, we’ve put together a few things to think about as you prepare to renovate your kitchen.

The first thing to consider is your budget. Depending on how much money you have to play with, you could remodel your entire kitchen, or choose two small kitchen projects to tackle first. When working within a budget (especially if it’s tight!), it’s important to find a contractor who shares your vision, as well as understands the importance of staying within your budget. Likewise, it’s also good to have some extra money tucked away in case something in your renovation costs more than anticipated. This will keep you from going into debt, and you’ll be prepared for anything!

Another element to consider is your way of life. Do you have sit down dinners with your family every night? Are you known for your baked goods or delicious dinners? Make sure you come up with ideas that meet your needs and fit your lifestyle. Maybe you need state-of-the-art appliances and an island for kitchen prep. Maybe a large dining space is what you need, as well as a big pantry for extra storage. Whatever it is that will make your life easier and better, C&E Wurzer Builders will make it happen! We have a long, successful history of bringing families the custom kitchen of their dreams.

We can build you a kitchen with an island-- perfect for extra kitchen space AND a great dining area!

We also suggest to people that they consider the space of their current kitchen. If you have a smaller kitchen, but don’t want to build an addition onto your home, your options might be limited. We can still bring you a stunning kitchen regardless of space, and C&E Wurzer Builders can even advise you on what will look the best with the room you have. Nothing is impossible with us!

Ready to build the kitchen of your dreams? Contact C&E Wurzer Builders, and we’ll work together to draft the perfect space for you and your family!

Fall-Proof Your Home!

There’s no doubt about it– fall has arrived in Northwestern Wisconsin. While the beautiful leaves, trips to the pumpkin patch, and Halloween preparations are distracting, it’s important to tend to your home as we enter into a chillier season. Whether you’re a new home owner, or you’ve lived in your home for 15 years, it’s easy to forget some of the maintenance that needs to get done before winter arrives.

Fortunately, there are plenty of resources available to trigger your memory and help you prepare. Better Homes and Gardens (BHG), for example, has a fantastic fall checklist that you can use to make sure your home is ready for anything! While everything on this checklist should be completed, there are four that we want to make sure you do.

1.) Clean Your Gutters. For those of us who live in homes surrounded by trees, our gutters can accumulate with falling leaves. Keeping gutters clean is crucial, especially when we get into winter and run-off from snow looks for a place to go. We want to keep that water outside, and not in your house. BHG recommends cleaning your gutters, and then covering them with “mesh guards to keep debris from returning.”

2.) Check Out Your Roof. If you have a leaky roof now, chances are you’re not going to want to see what it turns into in the winter. What will be an already cold Wisconsin winter night, will turn into a freezing nightmare if there’s leaks in your roof. If you’re concerned about your roof, call C&E Wurzer Builders– we’ll check it out for you!

3.) Inspect Your Furnace. We already feel the hint of winter in the cool fall air. Now is the perfect time to make sure your furnace is in working order. Better to find issues now then on the coldest days of the year. BGH says to keep an ear our for any strange noises or strange behavior (like a faulty thermostat).

4.) Don’t Forget About The Fireplace. Wood-burning fireplaces are a warm, winter blessing. If they aren’t cleaned properly, however, they can become very dangerous. Maintaining your fireplace includes inspecting and cleaning out creosete deposits, checking your chimney for cracks or loose bricks, and more. Have your fireplace inspected this fall before starting any fires this year.

Take a look at the rest of this fall, home checklist. Taking care of each of these items could make the difference between a comfortable or miserable winter season. If you have questions about who to call for any of these home check-ups, let us know. We can point you in the right direction, so that you and your family can create more memories in your home all fall and winter long!

Custom Home Building Innovation

C&E Wurzer Builders—Where Innovation Meets Modern Living

At C&E Wurzer Builders, we’re never satisfied with building the same house twice. Each home we create provides a unique living experience, customized to meet your family’s needs. Whether you need five bedrooms, a designated “man cave” for big game days, or a kitchen that’s perfect for entertaining parties for years to come, we are here to help make your vision a reality.

We love to stay ahead of the curve on trends and create modern homes, while also keeping our custom homes timeless. That’s why we’re excited about the recent walk-in pantry that we built. We know that, often times, the kitchen is the most important room of the house. It’s where important conversations are held, where meals are shared, and where moments are celebrated.

Often times, people say they don’t have enough storage space in their kitchen, which can make these moments strenuous or fleeting because there is too much “stuff” out on surfaces or sitting areas. This walk-in pantry, while innovative and beautiful, also has a very classic and simplistic feel to it. Not only is this a place where you can store groceries, but you can also store kitchen appliances in here, too, such as a microwave, coffeemaker, or electric tea kettle.

With a pantry like this in your custom kitchen, your counter tops will be free of clutter and clean, giving your kitchen an open and airy feel to it. With its sleek white cabinets and deep shelving that stretches way back, we’re sure that space like this is a great fix for all of your storage needs. This is why C&E Wurzer Builders wants to build your custom home—to make sure you have the space you need to make your house a home.

Have You Seen Our New Lookbook?

At C&E Wurzer Builders, we’re proud of the beautiful, custom homes we’ve built. We know that we can talk about our custom homes, but we think that photos of our hard work and quality homes will speak louder than any words. That’s why we’ve created a Custom Homes Lookbook of some of our most recent work. The Lookbook allows us to easily share our new creations with you.

When you see a home you like, simply roll your cursor over the image and click. You’ll be taken to the home’s features (bedrooms, price range, square footage, etc.). More importantly, the image will be accompanied by a short story. Our hope is that you’ll be inspired and expand on this home’s story, fill in the gaps with your own adventures there.

When looking at these pictures, we want you to imagine yourself here. You’re in the kitchen making dinner with your family. You’re watching the Super Bowl in the family room with your closest friends, cheering on your team. You’re hosting birthday parties in the backyard. Whatever the occasion, our homes will be the perfect backdrop to your life events.

No two families are the same, and our homes and Lookbook reflect this. We believe that your home should be as unique and beautiful as your family. C&E Wurzer Builders will build a custom home that is perfect for the memories you will create.
